Designer Derek Lam, whose work has been worn by first lady Michelle Obama, will launch a limited-edition collection for women at Kohl’s stores and Kohls.com in April.
Part of Kohl’s DesigNation concept, Lam’s capsule features misses’ dresses, skirts, pants, capris, shorts, tank tops, shirts, outerwear and swimwear influenced by his trip to Rio de Janeiro — stopping short of g-string bikinis.
“Rio de Janeiro is a city that bridges the old with the new, where you can’t separate what is natural from what is manmade,” Lam said in press materials. “This DesigNation collection with Kohl’s serves as an ally to modern women, embracing the spirit of Rio and providing beautiful, inspired clothing at an affordable price.”
Prices for the collection, available through May or while supplies last, will range from $36 to $98.
Kohl’s DesigNation series, in which guest designers draw inspiration from international destinations, started with Narciso Rodriguez last fall.
Lam, whose luxury collection is sold in stores such as Neiman Marcus and includes handbags, shoes and eyewear, also launched a diffusion line, 10 Crosby Derek Lam, in 2011. See dereklam.com for more information on those. For the Kohl’s line, see kohls.com/DerekLam.

Called “Man Repeller x PJK…Just Saying,” the line is being introduced in the Individualist department at Nordstrom, with Medine making a series of store appearances.

H&M recycling program
Maybe you heard Helen Hunt mention H&M at the Oscars before Ryan Seacrest’s attention wandered. Hunt used the midnight blue gown she was wearing, custom-designed by H&M, to call attention to the new garment-recycling program at H&M stores across the U.S. and globe. For each bag of clothing that a customer brings in to donate, he or she will receive a voucher for a 15 percent discount on the next item purchased at H&M. The U.S. beneficiary is Global Green USA.
